Gorilla Forest Lodge

Gorilla Forest Lodge is set on a steep hillside (lots of steps!) just inside the northern edge of Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The lodge is built into the thick secondary rain forest enabling guests to truly experience natural forest sounds and sights, and it is an ideal spot from which to start a gorilla trek as it is close to the Park entrance and visitor briefing point.

Accommodation & Facilities

Gorilla Forest Lodge has 10 beautifully built thatched suites, crafted with African designs with locally sourced stone, timber, and fibres, and all with floor to ceiling windows and panoramic forest views. The rooms have heating, en-suite bathrooms with showers and baths, armchairs, a minibar, and verandahs with sublimely comfortable suspended seats. The lodge has an indoor-outdoor lounge, bar, and restaurant, a spa, and the Explorer’s Lounge which is full of artefacts and books about the region, all designed to immerse guests in the surrounding rainforest. The lodge has a ‘mud room’ where guests can get ready before gorilla treks and take muddy boots off afterwards.

Experience & Activities

The lodge is renowned as the premier base for gorilla trekking, led by highly experienced rangers who guide guests to spend an intimate hour with habituated mountain gorilla families. Additional experiences include guided forest and birding walks, community and cultural visits with the Batwa people, and tours highlighting A&K Philanthropy conservation and community projects. Together, these activities offer a rare blend of wildlife encounters, cultural insight, and meaningful conservation-focused travel in one of Africa’s most extraordinary landscapes.
