Our partnership with professional photographic experts allows us to put together tailored photography trips in Africa, whether you want to perfect your skills with a ‘point and shoot’ or develop prowess with high-end professional cameras. We can answer your questions relating to equipment, photographic style, tuition and preparing for your safari, as well as advising on the right destinations and seasons to travel according to the animals you wish to photograph, whether it be mountain gorillas in Rwanda or elephants in Botswana.
Techniques range hugely and discovering your own trademark style makes photography on safari so exciting. The big cats are the focus of many a budding photographer, but to produce the real story of your safari you need to learn to capture birds in flight, African sunsets, running zebras, wide-angle elephants, giraffe sunset silhouettes, family fun and even the African night sky.
The ability to share photos through social media has revolutionized the way we communicate in the 21st Century. There are so many exciting ways to publish your safari pictures, whether on Instagram or to create professional standard coffee table books online. Knowing that so many people can view your magnificent images only adds to the excitement of wildlife photography. With specialist advice at our fingertips, we can help you capture Africa in a whole new light.
A number of lodges offer specialist photographic safari holidays where photographic tutors are resident in camp. View this video of a typical photographic safari holiday with tutor and photographer, Andrew Aveley, at Jaci’s Safari Lodge, South Africa.
Consider booking a private vehicle, it’ll give you the flexibility you might not get if sharing with non-photographers.
A boat will provide a different angle for taking wildlife images and particularly good for close up shots of bird life, hippo and elephant.
Some camps have photographic hides, these present incredible opportunities for the photographer to sit hidden, in perfect view of the wildlife.
While having a knowledgeable photographic guide is essential on a specialist photographic safari, it’s also possible to travel with a professional photographer throughout your safari, and to receive tuition and guidance on equipment and techniques prior to your departure.
Different seasons offer different opportunities. During the green, or rainy seasons, you will find magnificent colours and wonderful light; high season will often provide spectacular predator and prey action. We can advise on the best times of travel to capture your particular wish list.

Just returned from trip to Kenya and Victoria Falls in Zambia organised for us by Robyn at Aardvark- we couldn’t have had a better time! All the advice in the planning and booking of this trip of a lifetime was invaluable and Aardark’s partners on the ground handled the transfers smoothly even when flight connections tight. We loved the intimacy of the Kicheche tented camps we selected in Kenya with Robyn’s help - exactly what I’d hoped for and the wildlife guiding and viewing was amazing. Waterberry Lodge in Zambia peaceful location and so lovely to hear the hippos close by. Robyn very good at accommodating our last minute request to experience the Devil’s pools at Victoria falls - spectacular! Would happily recommend Aardvark to anyone considering booking a safari.

Robyn organised our honeymoon to Kenya, visiting Ol Seki in the Naboisho Conservancy followed by rest and relaxation at Chale Island near Diani. Our safari was simply amazing, the camp was beautiful and the wildlife was spectacular, a truly special experience. All the logistics were organised seamlessly with fantastic and friendly on-the-ground service from Bush and Beyond. Thank you Robyn and the Aardvark team!

4 of us joined a group last week on a trip to Kenya with Aardvark safaris on a horse riding holiday in the Masai Mara. This did NOT disappoint in any way! Lucinda was our planner and she brought her A game for sure. This was our 4th safari with Aardvark and you think things couldn’t possibly get better but you’d be wrong. It totally can and it was exceptional, the horses were foot perfect, the camps, the guides just everything all together made for an awesome weeks entertainment and, oh, the food was also fantastic!! What these guys can produce out of a tent is pretty spectacular. So if you’re reading this far just stop and book the holiday you won’t be disappointed!!

We have just got back from the trip of a lifetime!! A 6 night riding safari in the Masai Mara, Kenya completely organised from beginning to end by Lucinda Crawford at Aardvark Safaris. The attention to detail was phenomenal from sending us a wonderful book telling us the story behind Offbeat and lovely luggage tags, to being greeted at the airport with branded caps, to being whisked through Kenyan immigration and then a comfortable nights sleep in a hotel close to the airport, which gave us the perfect opportunity to meet the group before our safari adventure began.
This is our third holiday through Aarkvark and many other friends have used them too and it honestly makes all the difference and takes all the stress out of it! I couldn’t recommend them as a company more highly. Each and every-time we’ve listened to their recommendations and Lucinda has found us hidden gems that I never would have come across and she’s been spot on! We can’t wait for our next trip to SA in December 🙏🙏

To return the third time to a safari experience is a real treat, but to use the same company, Aardvark to create that experience tells you something else. A superb company, who listen, just tell them what you dream of, and they will do everything in their power to make those dreams come true. Dont ever forget a Safari is not a drive through a zoo, its a real wild experience, dont go to tick boxes, just enjoy real wild life encounters.

We booked our honeymoon through Aardvark Safaris and couldn’t recommend them more. From start to finish, Robyn assisted us with our dream safari in Botswana. The whole trip went smoothly and left us not having to worry about anything. Even whilst on the trip, we were able to update our itinerary and were helped by the great support team on the ground too. Overall a fantastic experience, thank you

Jo and Christine at Aardvark Safaris are absolutely amazing. We had been considering a Safari for many years and struggled with different options and ultimately we chose Aardvark and were thrilled with the trip they curated for us. Jo really listens and attended to what our interests and priorities were and built a trip in a way that just nailed it! We were absolutely delighted with the quality of service, accomodations, guides, wildlife opportunities and overall ease of travel throughout the multiple countries we visited. I would 100% recommend Aardvark to anyone considering a Safari.

I really appreciate the work you did, planning our trip. It was perfect. The reception when we arrived at Nairobi, the hotel where we spent our first night, the two camps, all excellent. We were treated very well by all the people we encountered.
We especially liked Mara Valley, the second camp. It is five stars. The food could not be better. The vegetarian options were very good.
The drives were fantastic, the extra activities also. The balloon ride was an unforgettable experience. We saw all the animals we wanted and we had an excellent private guide at the second camp. We regret not having at the first one.
The day spent at Nairobi was pleasant, but we wish we had had an extra day and a night at the hotel. It was a long and tiring day until we went to the airport. The driver was very nice and took us to a craft market, and to visit a special project. The restaurant was excellent and we had a very good lunch.
It was very good to have had the especial assistance provided at the airport. It helped a lot. Again, thank you, Jo and Advark sapharis for our wonderful trip. We will recommend this company. As we say in Portuguese, obrigada!

Aadvark (theough the very patient Robyn) co-ordinated a complicated 2 week family tour through Uganda and into Rwanda during the Ebola outbreak - not only was the tour a huge and memorable success (trip of a lifetime) but we felt confident in the assurances / checks / research conducted by Aadvark regarding our safety. The lodges we stayed in and our guide for the 2 weeks (Milton) cannot be faulted and if we go again, I would request Milton as our guide. He has contacts everywhere and we felt safe in his care. We have used Aadvark a few times now (including incredible Kilimanjaro trek) and would not hesitate to do so again - they have real local experience and knowledge and I trust their judgement and recommendations.
