Bwindi Lodge

Bwindi Lodge is adjacent to the small village of Buhoma on the northern edge of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in the far west of Uganda. The lodge is set in lush tropical gardens on a hillside above a river, overlooking lush rainforest opposite. It is the perfect base for visits to the national park and as a starting point for gorilla tracking.

Accommodation & Facilities

Bwindi Lodge has ten large and beautifully built thatched bandas well-spaced out in the gardens, with en-suite bathrooms, outside showers, a cosy lounge with a fireplace, and private verandahs giving wonderful views of the forest. Two deluxe rooms have more space and a bigger sitting room. The main lodge has a large dining room, a bar, a library, a lovely lounge with a central open fireplace, and a big terrace, all with views across to the forested hillside on the opposite bank. Bwindi Lodge also has a spa and a sauna, ideal for restoring weary legs after gorilla tracking.

Wildlife & Activities

More than half the world’s mountain gorilla population lives in Bwindi, and it is possible to visit several habituated family groups under the national park’s carefully managed trekking programme. Although this is the reason most guests come to Bwindi, the park is home to 93 mammal species including forest elephants, chimpanzees, and 11 monkey species, and almost 350 birds. These animals and birds can be seen on nature walks and walks to the waterfall inside the forest with a knowledgeable national park guide. The lodge offers a tea growing and making demonstration, river walks with members of the staff, and basket weaving lessons. A visit to Bwindi Bar, the clinic, the women’s group, and pangolin rescue centre is also a highlight of a stay here.
