Cottar's 1920s Safari Camp

Cottar’s 1920’s Safari Camp is on the side of a hill in the 8,000 acre Olderkesi conservancy on the southeastern edge of Kenya’s Masai Mara and the Loita Hills. The camp has far reaching views into the Serengeti and Loliondo reserves in Tanzania. The Cottar family has been operating safaris for more than 100 years, having started in the 1920’s, and Calvin and Louise Cottar are the current generation who own the camp.

Accommodation & Facilities
Cottar’s Camp accommodates a maximum of 28 guests in 11 authentic and spacious pale canvas safari tents, which are luxuriously furnished with 1920s campaign-style furniture. Three tents have two bedrooms separated by a lounge to accommodate families, and two are specifically designed for honeymooners. Each has an en-suite bathroom and private verandah with a day bed. The camp has a large and beautifully decorated mess tent with a dining room, plenty of sofas and places to sit, and a sociable bar in the middle. The Explorer’s Tent has a library, maps, armchairs and sofa, and a spa and a large swimming pool.

Wildlife & Activities
Cottar’s has some of the finest guides in Kenya, and in one of the best wildlife viewing areas in the world, a truly memorable safari is guaranteed. As well as night and day drives in an open 4×4 vehicle, fishing, walking safaris, visits to local communities and swimming in a natural plunge pool are all activities that can be enjoyed from Cottar’s 1920s Safari Camp. Guests can expect to see lion, cheetah, elephant, and buffalo, as well as a variety of other plains wildlife.  The guides here are excellent with children and will ensure the whole family has a wonderful experience.
