Tswalu Tarkuni
Tarkuni Villa is an exclusive safari house with a beautiful setting in a secluded valley below the Korannaberg Mountains in a private part of Tswalu Kalahari Reserve. Tswalu is more than 1,200 square kilometres (120,000 hectares) on the edge of the Kalahari, making it one of the largest privately owned wildlife reserves in South Africa.
Accommodation & Facilities
Tarkuni Villa is in a private area of the Tswalu Reserve in the Korannaberg Mountains and is perfect for families and small groups of up to ten guests. Tarkuni offers complete flexibility with private safari vehicles and guides, and a dedicated chef and staff. Built amid rolling mountains the accommodation consists of five luxury bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms and outdoor showers. Sliding glass doors lead onto outdoor decks and private terraces with star beds which can be made up on request, to give guests the thrill of sleeping under the stars. There is also an open plan lounge and dining room, library, covered patio and a heated swimming pool. Children are well provided for, with two sets of bunk beds and separate nanny quarters with two single beds and an en-suite bathroom. Tswalu’s sleep-out platform, the Malori, has a safari tent under a thatched roof at the back of the platform, and an en-suite bathroom. Dinner is prepared while the guests enjoy sun-downers and the amazing Kalahari sunsets, and the following morning they can ride, walk, or drive back to the lodge. Malori must be booked in advance, for an additional charge.
Wildlife & Activities
Guests can take guided walks across the stunning, silent red dunes. Day and night drives in open safari vehicles allow visitors to enjoy excellent wildlife viewing, an impressive sunset or splendid bush dinner. Bird watching, star gazing, rhino tracking, and visits to Tswalu’s habituated meerkats are just some of the activities on offer. Horse riding enables guests to become one with nature and to experience close encounters with wildlife. Sleep-outs at the Malori platform in the sand dunes far from the lodges offers a spectacular way to enjoy the tranquillity of the desert and the stunning night skies.
