Basecamp Samburu
Basecamp Samburu has a lovely setting in the 23,000 hectare Kalama Conservancy just north of Samburu National Reserve. Overlooked by the sacred Mt. Ololokwe, the camp has stunning views of the region’s dramatic landscapes and endless skies.
Accommodation & Facilities
Basecamp Samburu has just five safari tents, built on timber decks, one of which has two bedrooms to suit a family. The tents have en-suite bathrooms, and verandahs at the front. The tents are oriented so that the bedrooms and bathrooms all have views out into the bush. The camp has two raised star-beds, one of which has a jacuzzi on its deck. The large mess tent has a dining room, lounge and bar, and there’s a camp fire outside.
Wildlife & Activities
Wildlife living in the Samburu and Kalama reserves includes plenty of elephants, lion, buffalo, reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, kudu, impala, spotted hyena, leopard, Somali ostrich, gerenuk, and occasionally cheetah. Guest at Basecamp Samburu can enjoy day and night wildlife drives, walking safaris, stargazing, and visits to the Reteti Elephant Sanctuary. Cultural immersion with the Warrior Academy and village visits led by Samburu warriors can also be arranged.
