Kisawa Sanctuary

Kisawa is a luxurious lodge in 300 hectares of forest, beach, and sand dunes, on the southern tip of Benguerra Island which is 14 kilometres from Mozambique’s coast. Benguerra Island is part of the Bazaruto Archipelago, which is surrounded by a Marine National Park home to some of the richest and least explored subtropical marine ecosystems in the Indian Ocean.

Accommodation & Facilities
Kisawa has eight villas with one, two and three bedrooms, well-spaced along the beach, with their own private beach, open-air deck, infinity pool and outdoor day area. The layout offers choices for couples, families, and friends to enjoy company, privacy, and space. The lodge has been built with a combination of skilled artisans from Benguerra Island to ensure as light a footprint as possible allowing the property to blend seamlessly into its surroundings. Each villa has a private butler service and an electric Mini Moke to get around the island.

Experience & Activities
The Bazaruto Archipelago is best explored by snorkelling, scuba diving, paddleboarding, and kayaking through the mangroves. There is the option to visit Flamingo Beach and take boat trips to further afield islands. Guests can join scientists observing the abundant marine wildlife and gathering data to help with their research.  Whale-watching is good between July and October, with the Mozambique Channel being an ideal breeding and nursing ground for humpback whales. Guided walks, sleep outs, kite surfing,  beach dinners, fishing, and helicopter flights can also be arranged. Guests can also enjoy dhow cruises and join in or cheer the Benguerra Island school children during football matches and take to the field with the Kisawa team in the village.
