KuKaya
KuKaya is a beautiful lodge overlooking a lagoon and a permanent water hole inside Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park.
Accommodation & Facilities
KuKaya has six large private villas with canvas walls and thatched roofs perched on the edge of the lagoon. One villa has one bedroom and the others all have two. The air-conditioned bedrooms all have en-suite bathrooms with outside showers, large lounges, big shady verandahs, and private plunge pools. The two bedroom villas have the space to add extra beds to the dressing room of each bedroom to accommodate smaller children. The villas all have their own kitchen with a fridge and a kettle. The lodge has a central Chitenge where Kenneth Kaunda, Zambia’s first president, once held business meetings, and a lovely spacious bar and lounge. Meals can be eaten in the villas or at the main lodge.
Experience & Activities
South Luangwa has an excellent and varied wildlife population including a large number of leopards, plenty of lions and wild dogs, and big herds of buffalo. Thornicroft’s giraffe, Crawshay’s Zebra and Cooksons’s wildebeest can all be seen along with kudu, impala, puku, warthog and many hippos and crocodiles. The birding is excellent too thanks to the varied habitats and year-round water supply. KuKaya offers day and night wildlife drives and walking safaris, a hide, and expert guides.
