Maasai Trails

Maasai Trails operates multi-day walking safaris across the Loita Hills that lie between the Masai Mara and the Shompole region of the Great Rift Valley.

Accommodation & Facilities
The walks offered by Maasai Trails vary in length from two to seven nights, and are guided by local Maasai whose land this is. A team of donkeys carry the camp and guests’ luggage, and campsites are carefully chosen depending on the route, the movement of wildlife, and the prevailing weather. The camps are simple, with bell tents for guests, bucket showers and short drop loos, and meals are cooked over a campfire. The camp staff are all local Maasai people, and many of them speak good English.

Wildlife & Activities
The Trails can vary in number of days and any number of people can join from one up to fourteen, but the trails stay the same and all begin from a base camp where the donkeys who carry the camp are weighed and packed. The scenery in the Loita Hills is spectacular, and several itineraries include visiting the sacred and pristine Forest of the Lost Child deep within the hills. Colobus monkeys, bushbuck, buffalo, duiker and a multitude of birds are among the many things that can be seen on one of these superb walks.
