Wildlife & Activities

Sarara and the Namunyak Conservancy offer an excellent insight into rugged wilderness and age-old Samburu culture; Sarara’s guides aren’t simply wildlife spotters — they reveal the landscape through their own deep knowledge, explaining the relationships between the wildlife, the seasonal rains, the people, and the environment. The wildlife in the Sarara Valley has staged a remarkable recovery since the establishment of the Namunyak Conservancy, and the broader area is home to Kenya’s second-largest elephant population, as well as one of the largest reticulated giraffe populations. A variety of other species are also seen, including the occasional leopard sighting.

The wide variety of activities on offer here includes day and night drives, walking safaris, fly-camping, horse riding, hikes in the mountains, visits to the Singing Wells, visits to local communities, and Reteti Elephant Orphanage, walks in the mountains to look for De Brazza’s monkeys, and amazing bird watching.
