Sand Rivers Selous
Sand Rivers Selous is a truly outstanding camp situated on an outcrop of rock, providing stunning views over the Rufiji River in Tanzania’s Nyerere National Park (formerly Selous Game Reserve), part of the largest protected area in Africa. The reserve itself has a very small number of camps, which are miles apart.
Accommodation & Facilities
Sand Rivers has five spacious open-fronted stone and thatch cottages and three suites, one of which has two bedrooms and is ideal for a family. The cottages have en-suite, river facing bathrooms with flush loos and powerful showers. The suites have their own private plunge pool and lounge and are set a little way up the hill for greater privacy and better views. There is a beautiful big open-fronted main lodge with a dining room, lounge, and bar under a thatched roof. Set just up from the riverbank is a swimming pool in the shade of an ancient baobab tree. Meals are often served outside on the deck to make the most of the magnificent river-side setting.
Wildlife & Activities
Sand Rivers offers walking safaris, boat trips, fishing, and private day and night wildlife drives in open vehicles. There is also the opportunity to book fly camping in advance. There is a large number of predators, prey and birds in the vicinity and with very few other vehicles around it’s a wonderfully peaceful corner of wild Africa.
