&Beyond Nxabega Under Canvas
Nxabega Under Canvas is a gorgeous little tented camp set beside a channel of the Xudum River on the southwest side of Botswana’s spectacular Okavango Delta. The camp is hidden in the riverine forest along the side of the channel and has a lovely outlook over the seasonal floodplain.
Accommodation & Facilities
Nxabega Under Canvas takes just six guests and has three simple safari tents with comfortable beds and chairs, en-suite bathrooms with flush loos and twin bucket showers, and a shady verandah. The camp has a mess tent with a dining table, sofas, and a small bar, and there’s a campfire outside where guests gather for drinks and conversation. Meals are often cooked on an open fire and served al fresco, either in the shade of one of the beautiful trees or under the stars and lit by lanterns.
Wildlife & Activities
The country around the Xudum River in the Nxabega concession is a lovely mix of floodplains, riverine forest, palms, marshy grassland, and channels. It’s a beautiful matrix of habitats and scenery, and perfect for a mixture of activities, which include day and night wildlife drives, walking safaris, mokoro (dug-out canoe) trips, birdwatching, seasonal fishing (March to December), and stargazing. The wildlife in this part of the delta is wonderfully diverse, and guests might see lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena, wild dog, elephant, buffalo, hippo, giraffe, kudu, zebra, and plenty of antelopes. The birdlife is phenomenal thanks to the waterways and varied habitats.
